Run Done vs. Woodpecker (now MyCase Advanced Document Automation)

Woodpecker built a genuinely good Word-native document automation tool. It was acquired by MyCase in 2021 and now ships as MyCase Advanced Document Automation. If your firm already runs on MyCase, it is the natural choice. This page explains where the two tools differ for everyone else.

What Woodpecker is good at

Woodpecker, now MyCase Advanced Document Automation, is a Word add-in for reusable legal templates, and inside the MyCase ecosystem it does its job well.

  • Genuinely inside Word. It works as an add-in on Mac, PC and Word Online, so drafting stays where lawyers already work.
  • Rich template features. Reusable templates with conditional logic, dropdowns, formulas and a clause library.
  • Deep practice management integration. Templates auto-fill from MyCase client and case records, so data entered once in the practice management system flows into documents.

When to pick Woodpecker (MyCase ADA)

  • Your firm already runs on MyCase, or is ready to adopt it. The document automation then draws on client and case data you maintain anyway.
  • You want reusable templates with conditional logic, dropdowns, formulas and a clause library, built once and shared across the team.
  • Per-user pricing bundled with full practice management is a fit for how your firm buys software.

When to pick Run Done

  • You do not use MyCase and do not want to adopt a practice management system just to automate documents.
  • Your data arrives as IDs, scans, PDFs and text rather than living in a case database, and today someone retypes it.
  • You want your existing documents filled as they are, without rebuilding them into field-based templates.
  • EU data hosting, GDPR compliance and a signed data processing agreement matter for your clients' personal data.
